What is a bustle exactly? Well…..
A bustle refers to the sewing process of transitioning a wedding gown to function as if it has no train. In other words, a seamstress adds buttons, hooks or ribbons into the dress to make it easier for you to walk post-ceremony by lifting up the train or tucking it into itself .
Bottom line here, you spent a good chunk of change on a wedding dress. After your ceremony you don’t want it dragging on the ground getting dirty so you bustle it. See below, the before the bustle on the left and after the bustle on the right.
So, a little tip. When going to your final dress fitting with your seanstress bring two other people with you and practice the bustle. This is usually the maid of honor and another bridesmaid. Bustles are not always the easiest of tasks to maneuver. So, if you bring some girls with you to your final fitting your seamstress can walk you through the bustle and you’re not scrambling to figure it out the day of your wedding.
